The Karnataka High Court has recently upheld the continuation of criminal proceedings against an astrologer and a woman’s husband, dismissing their appeals to quash the charges.
The allegations involve serious offenses, including cruelty under Section 498A, assault with intent to outrage modesty under Section 354, and sexual harassment under Section 354A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The case revolves around accusations that the astrologer molested the woman under the guise of performing a ritual, while her husband allegedly threatened her to remain silent about the incident. The Court rejected the husband’s argument that the current complaint should be barred due to a prior similar case and ongoing divorce proceedings. Justice S Vishwajith Shetty, in his ruling, emphasized the gravity of the allegations, affirming that the legal process must continue.
