Karnataka HC to Hear Darshan Thoogudeepa's Plea Against Arms License Suspension in Renukaswamy Murder Case

Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, the main accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, has approached the Karnataka High Court to challenge the temporary suspension of his arms license.

The Bengaluru city police commissioner suspended Darshan’s arms license last week after he was granted bail by the High Court.

At the time, the police stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) had received a request from the local police handling the Renukaswamy case, asking for the cancellation of Darshan's firearm license due to concerns that he might misuse it while out on bail.

Following this, the police issued a notice to Darshan, and after considering his response, decided to temporarily suspend his arms license.

In his petition to the High Court, Darshan argued that as a well-known actor, he faces constant safety threats, which is why he obtained the arms license for the protection and peace of his family. He further contended that it is a well-established legal principle that the mere possibility of an accused person misusing their licensed arms cannot justify the suspension of the license.

Darshan has requested the High Court to revoke the police’s suspension order.

The petition is yet to be heard.
