The Karnataka High Court directed the State Lokayukta on Tuesday to provide details of its ongoing investigation into the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Justice M. Nagaprasanna also issued notices to Siddaramaiah, his co-accused, and both the Union and State governments, requesting their responses to a petition for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.
This directive came during the hearing of a petition filed by activist Snehamayi Krishna, one of the three complainants in the MUDA case, who expressed concerns that the Lokayukta, being a state entity, might not conduct an impartial investigation involving the Chief Minister. Senior Advocate KG Raghavan, representing Krishna, argued that there are apprehensions about the Lokayukta's ability to carry out a probe that would inspire public confidence.
The Court has scheduled the next hearing for November 26. In September, Justice Nagaprasanna had previously dismissed Siddaramaiah's plea contesting the Governor's sanction to file corruption charges against him related to land granted by MUDA to his wife, Parvathi.
Following this, the Karnataka Lokayukta registered an FIR against Siddaramaiah and three others on charges of corruption, cheating, and forgery concerning the allotment of MUDA sites.
