Justice Surya Kant, a judge of the Supreme Court, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.

CJI Sanjiv Khanna, using the powers granted under Section 3A of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, nominated Justice Surya Kant as Chairperson of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.

Legal services authorities working for offering legal aid and support to vulnerable and marginalized sections of society.

Earlier, Justice BR Gavai, the Supreme Court's senior-most puisne judge, held the position.
