The legal community at the Andhra Pradesh High Court convened on Monday to say goodbye to Justice D.V.S.S Somayajulu as he retired from his judicial duties.
The Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, praised Justice D.V.S.S Somayajulu, describing him as a person characterized by qualities such as humility, politeness, wisdom, and a sharp understanding—attributes essential for a distinguished judge. Justice Thakur also acknowledged the influence of Justice Somayajulu's family legacy on his character, noting that he had further enhanced and improved upon it in various aspects.
He also acknowledged that Justice D.V.S.S Somayajulu's extensive experience and profound knowledge have played a significant role in advancing the field of law. The Chief Justice also emphasized that the judgments delivered by Justice Somayajulu would serve as a valuable reference and continue to provide guidance to the legal community in the times ahead.
The Chairman and President of the Bar Council, as well as the Deputy Solicitor General, took the opportunity to speak at the gathering and extended their best wishes to Justice D.V.S.S Somayajulu for the path that lies ahead in his journey.
Justice Somayajulu was invited to share a few words, and in his address, he expressed his gratitude to all his mentors and fellow judges who had provided guidance throughout his career, mentioning their willingness to let him learn from his mistakes as well.
“I tried my best. Literary and figuratively I have, big shoes and big feet, so if I stepped on a few toes, I beg your forgiveness. It was just my endeavor and zeal to render justice,” he said and further added, “I sincerely believe that ultimately a good judgment is a product of good advocacy,' and thanked the Advocate General for "raising the bar and making the arguments such a pleasure.”
He concluded by mentioning that the High Court is a temple of justice and we used to see it from afar, to be acknowledged as somebody who has contributed. I will always remember the love and affection. It was an honour.
Justice Somayajulu received his early education in Vishakhapatnam and completed his legal education, specializing in civil, commercial, and arbitration matters, at Andhra Pradesh University. In addition to his legal career, he is known as an enthusiastic cricketer and has held several leadership roles, including serving as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association.
