Justice Siddharth Mridul sworn in as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court

Today, Justice Siddharth Mridul sworn in as 7th Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, following his oath-taking ceremony

The new Chief Justice was administered the oath of office by Manipur Governor Ms. Anusuiya Uikey during a ceremony conducted at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

On July 5, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of Justice Siddharth Mridul as the next Chief Justice. In the interim period, Justice MV Muralidaran served as the Acting Chief Justice

On September 27, the Supreme Court raised concerns about the delay in processing collegium recommendations with the Centre. A bench headed by Justice SK Kaul specifically mentioned that the proposal for the appointment of a Chief Justice for a "sensitive" High Court, alluding to the Manipur High Court, was among the pending resolutions. Subsequently, the Centre notified Justice Siddharth Mridul's appointment as Chief Justice on October 16.

Justice Siddharth Mridul obtained his LL.B. degree from the Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi in 1986. He was enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi in the same year. During the course of his career, he practiced law in multiple jurisdictions, which included the Delhi High Court and various other distinguished courts and tribunals.

In 2008, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court, and subsequently, in 2009, he assumed the position of a Permanent Judge.
