Today, Justice Manmohan, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court of India.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his elevation on November 28, and the Central government approved the recommendation on December 3.
Justice Manmohan served as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court since September 2024, following his tenure as Acting Chief Justice starting in September 2023.
Born on December 17, 1962, he did his LL.B. from Delhi's Campus Law Centre in 1987 and joined the Bar Council of Delhi the same year. He practiced law before the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court, receiving the designation of Senior Advocate in January 2003.
He was appointed an additional judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008, and became a permanent judge on December 17, 2009.
With Justice Manmohan’s oath-taking, the Supreme Court now has 33 judges, leaving one vacancy against its sanctioned strength of 34.
