Justice K. Vinod Chandran was sworn in as a Supreme Court judge today with Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna administering the oath of office.
On Tuesday, January 14, the Central Government issued a notification appointing Justice Vinod Chandran, former Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, as a Supreme Court Judge. This followed a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium last week.
Justice Vinod Chandran was appointed as a Judge of the Kerala High Court in November 2011. He was later elevated to the position of Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Patna on March 29, 2023.
In recommending Justice Vinod Chandran's name, the Collegium took into account the lack of representation from the Kerala High Court on the Supreme Court Bench. Notably, with the retirement of Justice C.T. Ravikumar earlier this month, there is currently no judge from Kerala in the Supreme Court.
The Collegium, led by CJI Sanjiv Khanna, highlighted that Justice Vinod Chandran, during his extensive tenure as a judge, has gained significant experience in various fields of law. Justice Chandran will serve on the Supreme Court until April 25, 2028.
