The Central government has cleared the appointment of Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Union Minister of State for Law (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal shared the announcement on his official X handle.
Initially, in July 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Sandhawalia for the role of Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. However, the Collegium revised its recommendations in September, proposing his appointment as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court instead. The government has now finalized his elevation to lead the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Sandhawalia, who began his judicial career as an additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 30, 2011, was made a permanent judge on January 24, 2014.
