The Central government on Monday announced the appointment of Justice G Narendar, a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
A notification to this effect was published on the website of Ministry of Law and Justice.
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Guhanathan Narendar, Judge, Andhra Pradesh High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," the notification said.
Justice Narendar began his judicial tenure as a judge of the Karnataka High Court on January 2, 2015, and was later transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 30, 2023.
Belonging to the Other Backward Class, he is the senior-most judge of his parent High Court. Prior to his elevation to the bench, he practiced as a lawyer before the Karnataka High Court.
"He is an experienced Judge with considerable experience on the judicial and administrative sides of the High Courts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh," the Collegium resolution said about him.
At present the High Court of Karnataka has no representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts.
