Justice Duppala Venkata Ramana Appointed Permanent Judge of Madhya Pradesh HC

The Central government has officially announced the appointment of additional judge, Justice Duppala Venkata Ramana, as a permanent judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Last month, the Supreme Court Collegium had put forth a recommendation for the appointment of Justice Ramana as a permanent High Court judge. In a collective proposal dated February 13, 2024, the Collegium suggested that three additional judges, including Justice Ramana, be elevated to the status of permanent High Court judges.

The other two judges recommended alongside Justice Ramana were Justices BVLN Chakravarthi and T Mallikarjuna Rao, proposed to be appointed as permanent judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. It's worth noting that all three judges have their roots in Andhra Pradesh. In 2023, the High Court Collegium initially put forth a recommendation for all three additional judges to be appointed as permanent judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium initially postponed a decision on the proposal by the High Court Collegium regarding the appointment of the three additional judges. Meanwhile, Justice Ramana was transferred from the Andhra Pradesh High Court to the Madhya Pradesh High Court in October 2023. Subsequently, on February 13, 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium opted to recommend Justice Ramana as a permanent judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, filling one of the existing vacancies in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The Central government has officially approved the recommendation for the appointment of Justice Ramana as a permanent judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, as stated in a notification issued on March 10. Additionally, on the same day, through a separate notification, the Central government has also given clearance for the appointment of Justices BVLN Chakravarthi and T Mallikarjuna Rao as permanent judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
