Justice Dr. DY Chandrachud will take oath as the 50th Chief Justice of India today at the Rashtrapati Bhawan at 10:00 AM. President Draupadi Murmu would administer the oath to the next Chief Justice of India.

Justice Chandrachud would take over the present CJI UU Lalit. The tenure of Justice Chandrachud would be a little over 2 years. Justice Chandrachud belongs to Maharastra. His father has also remained Chief justice of India for about 7 and half years.

Justice Chandrachud has given various remarkable judgments as judge of the Supreme Court. His judgment includes judgment on personal liberty and fundamental rights. Recently Justice Chandrachud has rendered judgment on the rights of women to abort a child irrespective of their marital status and a few provisions of  THE MEDICAL TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY ACT, 1971 as unconstitutional. He has also declared the two-finger test on Rape Victims illegal and unconstitutional and banned it throughout the country.

Justice Chandrachud would have one of the longest periods as CJI in recent times. His tenure starts today and would come to an end on 10.11.2024.
