Justice Amit Sharma Recuses from Hearing Bail Pleas in 2020 Delhi Riots Case

Justice Amit Sharma of the Delhi High Court withdrew from hearing bail pleas related to the 2020 Delhi riots on Thursday. The Bench, chaired by Justice Prathiba M Singh, directed that these cases be assigned to a different bench, excluding Justice Sharma.

"Let these matters be listed before the bench of which one of us (Justic Amit Sharma) is not a member, subject to orders of Hon’ble the Acting Chief Justice," the Court order said.

The bail pleas filed by Sharjeel Imam, Meeran Haider, and others are among those scheduled for hearings. This marks the third Division Bench to oversee these matters. Initially, Justices Siddharth Mridul and Rajnish Bhatnagar were handling the cases. Following Justice Mridul's transfer to the Manipur High Court, the responsibility shifted to Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain.

Following the recent roster change, the case was reassigned to Justices Prathiba M Singh and Amit Sharma. However, with Justice Sharma recusing himself today, the matter will now be heard by a fourth bench.
