Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chandrachud said that the judiciary should not wait for another pandemic like Corona virus, but should continuously focus on the development of new things. Like virtual hearing etc. He said that the Corona Virus (COVID 19) pandemic has forced the Judiciary to adopt modern technology. Now our full attention should be on its further development.
Chief Justice od India was addressing the 18th meeting of Chief Justices of the Supreme Court of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries. The three-day meeting has been organized in Delhi itself. Apart from Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Supreme Court judges Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice KM Joseph are also participating in this from the Indian side.
Addressing the inaugural program of the meeting, Justice DY Chandrachud told how the Supreme Court of India is constantly emphasizing on the use of new technology and efforts are being made to make the common man's judiciary accessible. Maximum and better access should be ensured.
Justice Chandrachud said that through Virtual/Hybrid Hearing, now advocates or petitioners sitting in any corner of the country can appear in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has also started the system of live streaming of constitutional matters. Along with this, AI software is also being used for transcription of hearing. Apart from this, the help of AI is also being taken for translation of all the decisions of the Supreme Court in Indian languages. Justice Chandrachud said that this would bring more transparency in the judiciary.
In his address, Justice Chandrachud also highlighted how during the Corona period, the Supreme Court and the High Court took suo moto cognizance of all such cases which were related to important issues like laborers, corona testing.
