Jharkhand HC Fines Union Minister Munda ₹1.25 Lakh for Petition Errors

The Jharkhand High Court has levied a fine of ₹1.25 lakh on Union Minister Arjun Munda due to his failure to address inaccuracies in a petition he submitted.

Justice Rajesh Kumar stated that the discrepancies could be overlooked if a payment of ₹1.25 lakh is made.

"Defect(s) pointed out by the office is/are, hereby ignored, subject to payment of Rs.1,25,000 in favour of Advocates’ Clerks Association, Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi."

Munda's plea was filed to contest a First Information Report (FIR) filed against him and fellow Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members. The FIR accused them of involvement in a confrontation with the police during a march to the secretariat on April 11, 2023. Among the 41 individuals named in the FIR were Munda, former Chief Ministers Babulal Marandi and Raghubar Das, Chatra MP Sunil Kumar Singh, MLA Amit Mandal, Sameer Oraon, and MP Nishikant Dubey.

Munda subsequently petitioned the High Court to dismiss the FIR. The Court issued a directive stating that no forceful measures would be taken against Munda until further notice. The case is scheduled for the next hearing on May 8.

Advocate Prashant Pallav represented Munda.

Government Advocate Manoj Kumar represented the State.
