Jharkhand HC Directs Chief Secretary to Submit Affidavit on 'Maiya Samman Yojana' Cash Disbursements

On Monday, the Jharkhand High Court directed Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari to submit an affidavit with additional details regarding the state’s ‘Maiya Samman Yojna’.

During the hearing of a petition filed by Ratan Devi, Justice Ananda Sen ordered the state government to include in the affidavit whether any direct cash payments have been made under the 'Maiya Samman Yojana' to fulfill election promises, and if so, to specify the amount distributed thus far. The case is scheduled for a further hearing on February 6.

The 'Maiya Samman Yojana' is designed to provide financial assistance to women, particularly mothers, to support their welfare.

Ratan Devi's petition highlights the non-payment of dues owed to her late husband, who was a former employee at the district library in Chatra. Her counsel argued that while the state has failed to allocate the funds owed to the petitioner, it continues to distribute substantial cash handouts as part of election promises.
