Recently, a court in Jammu and Kashmir announced 23 terrorists from Kishtwar district as proclaimed offenders. These individuals are reportedly operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Officials mentioned that the special Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) court in Doda has granted these individuals a month's time to present themselves in relation to the cases registered against them. Failure to do so will result in the attachment of their properties.
As per the latest court ruling on Monday, the count of proclaimed offenders in Kishtwar has now reached a total of 36, as indicated by sources familiar with the situation.
"In a significant move to address security challenges within the district, 23 terrorists from Kishtwar operating from Pakistan and PoK have been declared proclaimed offenders by the UAPA special court in Doda," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal told reporters.
According to the information provided, the court had previously declared thirteen terrorists as proclaimed offenders on September 16th.
"There are 36 terrorists from Kishtwar who are operating from Pakistan and PoK. Two FIRs have been registered against them," he added.
Poswal attributed this achievement to the diligent work of the Kishtwar police, highlighting their efforts in gathering crucial intelligence, filing FIRs against the terrorists, and meticulously presenting all gathered information before the court.
The court has given these terrorists a month to appear before it, he said.
The SSP mentioned that among the thirteen terrorists declared proclaimed offenders in September, properties belonging to seven have been identified. The process of attaching these properties has already commenced in court, according to his statement. Additionally, he emphasized the commitment of the Kishtwar police to uphold the law and prioritize the safety and security of the district.
