The Madras High Court was notified by the Tamil Nadu police on Thursday regarding the disappearance of six individuals affiliated with the Isha Foundation in Coimbatore since 2016. Additionally, the police assured the court of an ongoing investigation into these cases of disappearance.
The statements were presented before the bench comprising Justice MS Ramesh and Justice Sunder Mohan, who were presiding over a habeas corpus petition filed by Thirumalai from Tirunelveli District. Thirumalai sought the production of his brother Ganesan's body.
The Additional Public Prosecutor informed the court that the police were actively investigating the matter, mentioning that in certain instances, the missing individuals might have returned, although precise information was lacking. In response, the court directed the police to submit a status report by April 8 and adjourned the proceedings accordingly.
Thirumalai, a farmer, brought his case before the court following the disappearance of his brother, Ganesan, in March 2023. Thirumalai shared with the court that his brother had been engaged in charitable activities at the Isha Yoga Centre. On March 2nd, 2023, when Thirumalai reached out to the Yoga Centre to inquire about his brother's whereabouts, he was informed that Ganesan had not been present at the centre for two consecutive days.
He further mentioned that despite a police complaint being lodged based on a report from Dinesh, who was overseeing the yoga center, no action had been taken by the police, exhibiting a lackadaisical approach. Consequently, feeling devoid of other options, Thirumalai turned to the court, filing a habeas corpus petition.
