Monica Manpreet Singh was appointed as the first female judge in the United States of America on Friday when she took oath as a Judge in Texas' Harris Country Civil Court.

She was born in Houston, USA and lives in Bellaire with her husband and children. Her father moved to USA in 1970. 

She attended the University of Texas at Austin and the South Texas College of Law. She is practicing as a lawyer for last 20 years and has handled 100 cases. She is also involved in various civil right organization. 

On her sweaing-in ceremony she said "It means a lot to me because I represent H-town the most, so for it to be us, I/m happy for it.
