On Saturday, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) requested an additional eight weeks to conduct a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi.
This comes on a day when the timeline of four weeks granted to ASI to complete its survey in the Gyanvapi complex ending on 2 September.
Earlier, Varanasi Court granted time to ASI to determine if the mosque was constructed on a pre-existing temple.
Sudhir Tripathi, advocate the Council for the Hindu Communnity submitted that ASI would seek for additional time to complete the survey in Gyanvapi Mosque from the court and may submit a preliminary report
The ADJ Varanasi is slated to hear the matter on 8 September.
