Yesterday, the Gujarat High Court refused to consider a PIL petition, citing the petitioner's involvement in six first information reports (FIRs).
The division bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Aniruddha Mayee held that they are unable to entertain a PIL filed by an individual facing multiple criminal prosecutions.
"Given the existence of six FIRs against you and considering your credentials, we are unable to proceed with hearing this PIL. We regret that we cannot entertain such a petitioner in this matter," Chief Justice Agarwal stated.
Advocate Kumar Trivedi pressed the bench to take into account his client's extensive involvement in social work, emphasizing that the FIRs against him pertained to private transactions.
"Even though you've highlighted concerns regarding corruption in the implementation of the MNREGA scheme, due to the presence of six FIRs against you, we're unable to consider your plea. Prioritize addressing your pending cases before engaging in social work. Regrettably, we cannot entertain your plea," emphasized the Chief Justice.
Additionally, the Court declined to offer the petitioner the freedom to raise the issue through another individual.
