The Gujarat High Court has issued notices to the state government, Ahmedabad police commissioner, and other authorities in response to a habeas corpus petition filed by a man claiming that his daughter eloped with an ISKCON priest, taking gold and cash, and is being illegally confined.
The bench of Justice Sangeeta Vishen and Justice Sanjeev Thaker, on Tuesday, directed the government, Ahmedabad police commissioner, the inspector of Meghaninagar police station, and nine other respondents, including ISKCON priests, to respond by January 9, 2025.
The petitioner, an ex-armyman, alleges that his daughter was manipulated by priests from the ISKCON Temple on S.G. Highway, Ahmedabad, and ran away on July 27, 2024, with 230 grams of gold and Rs 3,62,000 in cash. He further claims that the priests administered drugs to his daughter regularly and that she is being unlawfully detained in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
Despite multiple complaints to the police, the petitioner asserts that authorities have not taken adequate steps to locate her. Fearing for his daughter's life, he expressed concerns about her daily drug consumption and the lack of any substantial information regarding her wellbeing.
