Mukhtar Ansari Sentenced to 10 Years in Murder Case

Uttar Pradesh Gangster-Politician Mukhtar Ansari Sentenced to 10 Years in Murder Case After Conviction

While he was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on September 25, he continued to be incarcerated due to his involvement in multiple other legal cases. One of these cases involved a 10-year sentence for the murder of police officer Kapildev Singh in 2009. In the same year, Mukhtar Ansari was also accused of attempting to murder another policeman, Mir Hasan.

In June, a Varanasi court sentenced Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment in a murder case.

On October 15, the Enforcement Directorate took action by attaching properties, including lands, a building, and bank deposits totaling more than ₹73.43 lakh, as part of their money laundering investigation against Mukhtar Ansari. Mukhtar Ansari, a five-time MLA, has faced a range of legal troubles, including a murder charge dating back to 1991, a period when he was just beginning to make his mark in politics.

In August 1991, Awadhesh Rai, a Congress leader and the brother of former MLA Ajay Rai, was shot outside Ajay Rai's residence. Notably, Mukhtar Ansari, though not yet an MLA at that time, was named as one of the accused in the case by Mr. Rai.

Over 15 cases against Mukhtar Ansari are pending trial across the country; he faces at least 61 criminal cases.

The police investigated the murder case thoroughly. They made a chart showing the connections between gang leaders and the former MLA before moving in to arrest him.
