Ahead of the G20 Summit in the national capital, Delhi Police has enforced Section 144 CrPc across the entire city to control large gatherings and deter any potential untoward incidents or unlawful activities. This directive is set to take effect from August 29 and will remain in force for a period of 15 days until September 12, inclusive of both days, unless revoked earlier. The decision to implement Section 144 was made by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.
The two-day G20 Summit will be held on September 9-10. However, related events, including sherpa meetings, and meetings of finance, energy and central bank deputies will begin from September 23.
The Delhi Police, in an official notice, has expressed concerns that certain criminal, anti-social elements, or terrorists with intentions detrimental to India's security may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, dignitaries, and important installations. They may do so by employing sub-conventional aerial platforms, such as paragliders, paramotors, hang-gliders, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), UASs (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters, or even through parachute jumping from aircraft, among other means. This notice highlights the need for heightened security measures and vigilance during the specified period.
According to the notice, the flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms like pare-gliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, small sized powered aircrafts, quadcopters or even by para-jumping from aircraft etc over the jurisdiction of the NCT of Delhi during the G20 Summit 2023 in the National Capital of Delhi and doing so shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is prohibited.
