Former Kerala Govt Lawyer Dies by Suicide Amid Rape Allegations

PG Manu, a former Senior Government Pleader in Kerala, was found dead at his residence in Kollam. Sources indicate that Manu died by suicide.

Manu was out on bail in connection with a 2023 rape case in which a woman had accused him of sexually assaulting her after she approached him for legal assistance. Based on her complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Manu under charges of rape and offenses under the Information Technology Act.

The woman had also alleged that he shared private photographs of her without consent.

Following the registration of the FIR, Manu resigned from his position as a senior government pleader. His applications for anticipatory bail were rejected by both the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court. He was arrested in January 2023 and later granted bail in March 2023, with strict conditions, including a directive that he must not be involved in any further criminal activity while on bail.

Last week, a video began circulating on social media in which a man was seen confronting and accusing Manu of raping his wife—who had allegedly sought legal advice from him. The video spread widely in legal circles, and reports suggested that a fresh police complaint was likely to be filed. If such a complaint had been registered, it could have constituted a violation of Manu’s bail conditions, potentially leading to his re-arrest.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity in Kerala, raising serious questions about professional ethics, accountability, and support structures for victims seeking justice.
