Former Bombay HC Judge, Justice Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Passes Away at 78

Former Bombay High Court Judge, Justice Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, passed away on Tuesday morning at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, aged 78, following complications from surgery.

His cremation will take place tomorrow at 1 PM at the Nyay Sagar Kalanagar crematorium in Bandra.

Born on December 25, 1946, Justice Radhakrishnan excelled academically, securing the top position in his LL.M. course at Mumbai University. He was admitted to the bar in 1971 and quickly established himself as a prominent advocate at the Bombay High Court, specializing in constitutional, civil, labor, and criminal law.

Beyond his legal practice, Justice Radhakrishnan was a passionate educator. He taught constitutional and administrative law at New Law College and the University of Bombay’s Department of Law for over a decade, also offering courses in public international law and press laws to LLM students.

In addition to his judicial accomplishments, he pursued a doctorate in Human Rights, a field to which he remained devoted throughout his career.

Advocate Raj Moray, a close friend of the late judge, fondly remembered him as "a good, learned, kind, and spiritual man, supportive of good causes, and always helpful to junior colleagues."

In 1996, Justice Radhakrishnan was appointed an additional judge of the Bombay High Court and became a permanent judge in 1998. After retiring from the court in 2008, he served as the chairperson of the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) from 2009 to 2014. His legacy as both a jurist and a teacher will be deeply missed.
