Former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu sent to 14 days of judicial Remand

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been placed in judicial remand for a period of 14 days following a decision by an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court on Sunday. This action was taken in connection with a corruption case against him. Naidu was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday, with allegations of his involvement in the Rs 371-crore Andhra Pradesh skill development scam case.

The case revolves around the establishment of the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) in 2014. The primary objective of the APSSDC was to provide training to unemployed youth and establish partnerships with educational institutions located near industrial areas, such as the Kia facility in the Anantapur district. Investigators have alleged that Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), played a pivotal role as the "principal conspirator" in orchestrating a scam under the guise of the APSSDC, which is said to involve a sum of Rs 371 crore.

During Chandrababu Naidu's tenure as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2019, the state government entered into a partnership with the German engineering company Siemens for the APSSDC (Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation) project. Under this collaboration, Siemens was assigned the responsibility of establishing six centers of excellence as part of the APSSDC initiative. These centers were aimed at fostering skill development and promoting technical education in the state.

However, the state government released Rs 371 crore for the project even though Siemens had not invested any funds into the project.

The former Andhra Pradesh CM was arrested under relevant IPC sections, including Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 465 (forgery). The Andhra Pradesh CID also invoked the Prevention of Corruption Act against him.
