An FIR has been lodged in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, against an individual for allegedly issuing a death threat on social media to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud concerning the Supreme Court's judgement on reservations, according to a police official on Monday.
In a landmark verdict on Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled that states have the constitutional authority to create sub-classifications within the Scheduled Castes, a socially heterogeneous group, to provide reservations aimed at uplifting those castes that are more socially and educationally backward.
"The FIR was registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act. Efforts are on to arrest the accused," Betul Ganj police station in-charge Ravikant Daheria said.
