FIR Lodged Against Lawyer for Indecent Exposure During Virtual Court Hearing

An FIR has been registered against a lawyer in Kerala for allegedly exposing himself and making sexual gestures during a court appearance via video conference.

The incident took place on September 2, when advocate TK Ajan, during a video conference appearance before the Additional District Judge in Thodupuzha, Idukki, allegedly exposed himself indecently. The court promptly terminated the video conference session.

"When the case kept aside for hearing the counsel appeared for appellant showed his nudity with some gestures . Hence the case adjourned with direction to the appellant to inform his counsel to appear before the court in person since the google meet switched off to avoid the exhibition of gestures", the Court said in its order passed on that day.

The case was subsequently adjourned to October 3. A complaint was later filed by the Bench clerk, leading to the registration of an FIR against the accused lawyer.

He was charged under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman, and Section 119(1)(a) of the Kerala Police Act for making sexual gestures or acts in a public place that degrade the dignity of women.
