ED Claims Kejriwal Consuming Mangoes, Sweets, and Sugary Tea in Jail Despite High Sugar Levels

The Enforcement Directorate informed a Delhi Court on Thursday that despite Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's assertion of high sugar levels, he continues to consume mangoes, sweets, and sugary tea while in jail.

Zoheb Hossain, special counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED), informed Special Judge Kaveri Baweja that Arvind Kejriwal aims to elevate his sugar levels as a basis for seeking bail in the money laundering case.

During the court proceedings, Kejriwal applied for permission to consult his regular doctor in jail through virtual conferencing, citing fluctuations in his blood sugar levels as the reason for his request.

Advocate Vivek Jain, representing Kejriwal, informed the court at the outset that they were withdrawing the application in order to submit a more comprehensive one. However, Zoheb expressed the Enforcement Directorate's concern regarding the language used in the application, specifically the phrase "alarming increase in diabetic levels."

“We wrote to the jail authorities and asked them what is the diet chart and medicines he is taking…. When he was allowed on April 01 home cooked food… please see. He is claiming high diabetes but he is having mangoes, sweets and tea with sugar…. This is a basis to create a ground for bail,” Zoheb said.

Jain opposed the submission, accusing Hossain of playing to the gallery and making statements for media attention. Despite the court disposing of the application, it scheduled the matter for the following day and directed the Tihar jail authorities to provide a medical report on Kejriwal, detailing his diet.

The hearing is set for tomorrow at 2 PM. Kejriwal was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the night of March 21. His judicial custody is due to expire on April 23.On April 10, the Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest, noting that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had presented sufficient evidence, including statements from approvers and AAP candidates, indicating that Kejriwal had received funds for the Goa elections.

Subsequently, the Delhi Chief Minister has contested the Delhi High Court's decision before the Supreme Court, challenging the ruling by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. The Supreme Court has acknowledged the plea but declined to provide interim relief. In the same case, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are also implicated. While Sisodia remains in custody, Singh was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court following a concession made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
