Demonetization Case: Supreme Court will hear on October 12

A Constitution Bench comprising of Justices S Abdul Nazeer, BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, V Ramasubramanian and BV Nagarathna while considering the Demonetisation Case has fixed for hearing after Dussehara Vacation on 12th October, 2022. Total 58 petitions were listed before the Court for hearing when Justice Abdul Nazeer remarked "Does this issue survive any more?"

The same question also came from another judge on the bench "The question is whether anything survives?"

On of this question, one of the advocates appearing in the matter stated that there are two aspects- one the validity of the Government decision, two- the individual claims relating to hardships.

After a brief discussion, Justice Nazeer observed "The first question we examine is whether the issue has become academic and if it can be heard at all" and the case has been fixed for 12th October, 2022.

The Court and the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the Union of India expressed that if the matter is left only for academic purposes, then the valuable judicial time can be used for other important cases.
