The Delhi High Court is scheduled to consider the plea submitted by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the trial court's decision to remand him to ED custody in the Delhi Excise Policy case tomorrow.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma is set to preside over the proceedings at 10:30 AM on Wednesday.
Arvind Kejriwal initiated his appeal in the High Court on March 23. Despite a request for an expedited hearing, it was not granted. Following his arrest by the ED on March 21, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi remanded him to ED custody until March 28.
According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Kejriwal is alleged to be a significant conspirator in the Delhi Excise Policy scam case. The ED's investigation into potential money laundering is rooted in a case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 17, 2022. This case pertains to suspected irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy for the fiscal year 2021-22.
The case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) originated from a complaint lodged by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on July 20, 2022. Allegations suggest that a criminal conspiracy was orchestrated by AAP leaders, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, along with other unidentified individuals or private entities during the formulation stage of the policy.
The alleged conspiracy is purported to have revolved around deliberately leaving or creating loopholes in the policy. These loopholes were purportedly intended to benefit certain liquor licensees and conspirators following the tender process. Currently, Manish Sisodia and AAP Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh are already in custody in connection with this case.
