The Delhi High Court has requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond to a petition filed by a NEET candidate. The petitioner claims that one of the physics questions in the NEET-UG entrance examination was based on the topic of 'radioactivity,' which was not included in this year's syllabus.
Additionally, the petitioner has pointed out a "manifest error" in another question, where the NTA allegedly marked an incorrect option as the correct answer.
A vacation bench presided over by Justice Dharmesh Sharma has granted a two-week extension to the counsel representing the Center, NTA, and National Medical Commission. They have been given this time to submit their responses to the petition filed by the NEET candidate.
"Learned counsels for respondents No.1 to 3 are present on advance notice and a request is made to grant time to file a short affidavit. Let the same be filed within two weeks from today," said the bench in the order passed on June 24.
The petitioner, despite being a "successful candidate," claims that their overall ranking has been negatively impacted due to errors made by the NTA.
"It is submitted that irregularities in competitive exams and that too where the examination is being held for preparing a host of future doctors, clearly deserves to be appreciated with utmost seriousness as it not only perpetuates inequalities by favouring the undeserving but while disadvantaging those in whose hands the health of the people of nations will rest in years to come," the petition filed through lawyer Sameer Kumar stated.
The matter would be heard next on July 16
