Today, the Delhi High Court sought a response from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to regarding a plea that challenges the suspension of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
Justice Subramonium Prasad issued a notice on the plea filed by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), contesting the communication dated December 24 from the Union Sports Ministry announcing the decision. The Ministry cited "hasty decisions" by WFI and expressed concerns regarding its "complete disregard for the existing rules and regulations" in the communication.
Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan, representing the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), argued that the federation was not provided with a show cause notice before the decision of suspension was made. He further asserted that the decision taken by the Union Sports Ministry contravenes both the constitutional provisions of WFI and the National Sports Development Code. Krishnan maintained that the suspension of WFI occurred without adhering to the principles of natural justice, as it was done without issuing a show cause notice.
"The court directed, 'Issue notice. Let a reply be filed within four weeks. Rejoinder, if any, within one week thereafter,'" indicating the timeline for further proceedings.
The next hearing for the matter is scheduled for May 28.
