Delhi HC Restrains Unauthorized Use of 'Razorpay' Trademark

The Delhi High Court has issued an injunction prohibiting multiple unidentified entities from utilizing the "Razorpay" trademark. This action follows a lawsuit filed by the payment gateway service provider, alleging unauthorized usage of the trademark by these entities. 

Justice Sanjeev Narula has ordered the blocking of WhatsApp and Telegram channels or accounts operated by the perpetrators. This decision comes with the observation that a preliminary case has been established in favor of Razorpay, justifying the granting of an ex-parte ad interim injunction.

The court issued directives to domain name registrars to block or suspend access to domain names operated by unidentified entities. Additionally, it instructed WhatsApp to furnish basic subscriber information pertaining to the accounts slated for blocking.

Justice Narula also instructed Meta Platforms to remove or block Facebook pages mentioned in the complaint and to reveal the details of the page holders.

The court additionally directed banks to freeze or suspend operations of bank accounts utilized by the unidentified entities. Furthermore, it ordered the National Payments Corporation of India to suspend or disable the UPI IDs referenced in the complaint.

Razorpay filed a lawsuit against unidentified individuals (referred to as John Doe), citing numerous complaints from the general public. The allegations stated that the defendants were falsely portraying themselves as recruiters for Razorpay, enticing individuals with part-time job offers for additional income. According to the complaint, this fraudulent activity was conducted through WhatsApp, Facebook, and Telegram platforms.
