A petition has been submitted to the Delhi High Court, urging swift action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political candidates for allegedly making "communally divisive speeches" in violation of the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha elections.
Shaheen Abdullah, Amitabh Pande, and Deb Mukharji filed a plea referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Banswara, Rajasthan, delivered on April 21st.
Today, Justice Sachin Datta presided over the hearing, and during the session, he made an oral remark emphasizing that the Election Commission of India is a constitutional body, indicating that the court cannot engage in micromanaging its affairs.
The case has been scheduled for further hearing on Monday. The court has instructed Advocate Nizam Pasha, representing the petitioners, to submit the relevant documents mentioned in the plea. Advocate Suruchi Suri appeared on behalf of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The petition requests the court to direct the Election Commission of India (ECI) to promptly take action in accordance with the law, including filing FIRs against candidates who deliver hate speeches, thereby violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The plea argues that despite numerous complaints from several citizens, including Abdullah, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not taken any effective action.
