A case has been brought before the Delhi High Court through a public interest litigation (PIL) petition, urging for the initiation of a first information report (FIR) against Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. This is in response to her sharing video clips of court proceedings on social media.
Advocate Vaibhav Singh has filed the PIL, also identifying multiple social media accounts that shared audio/video recordings of Arvind Kejriwal's address to the Rouse Avenue court regarding the case concerning Delhi's excise policy.
Singh has requested an investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the matter. In his plea, he contends that following Kejriwal's appearance at the Rouse Avenue Court on March 28, numerous social media accounts linked to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other opposition factions recorded the court proceedings and shared them on various social media platforms.
On March 28, Kejriwal appeared before the Court, brought in by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the Delhi liquor policy case. Speaking directly to the Court, Kejriwal accused the ED of running an extortion scheme for the BJP.
According to Singh, following the conclusion of the hearing, numerous social media accounts began disseminating the audio and video recordings of the court proceedings through posting, reposting, forwarding, sharing, and resharing. Specifically, Sunita Kejriwal reposted an audio recording initially uploaded by a Twitter account named Akshay.
Singh has contended that the recording of court proceedings is explicitly prohibited under the "High Court of Delhi Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts 2021." He further asserts that the act of making these videos viral is an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the judiciary and its judges.
“The post in regard to this audio/video recording was circulated on X erstwhile Twitter with the #MoneyTrailExposedByKejriwal. The circumstances in which the audio/video recording went viral smells deep conspiracy by the political parties to malign the image of judiciary and mislead the common people of this nation and to show the general public that the judiciary is working on the behest of government and under the pressure of the Central Government,” Singh has said.
He emphasized that the dissemination of such videos was a crucial component of the conspiracy devised by Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
