Delhi HC Orders Mahindra Electric to Stop Using '6E' Trademark for BE 6E Car

On Monday, the Delhi High Court recorded an undertaking from Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd., agreeing to stop using the “6E” trademark for its BE 6E electric car model. This follows a trademark infringement suit filed by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., the parent company of IndiGo.

In response, Mahindra has rebranded the vehicle as BE 6 and intends to challenge IndiGo’s claims in court.

As part of the agreement, IndiGo has decided not to pursue an interim injunction. The court dismissed IndiGo’s interim plea, issued summons to Mahindra, and scheduled the next hearing for April 2025.

IndiGo contends that “6E” is integral to its brand identity, encompassing services like 6E Prime and 6E Flex, and argues that Mahindra’s use of the mark infringes upon its trademark rights. '

Mahindra counters that its “BE 6E” branding, associated with its electric vehicle lineup, is distinctly different from IndiGo’s and has no connection to the airline industry.
