Delhi HC Mandates DJS Mains Exam (Written) 2023 for April 13-14

The Delhi High Court has mandated that the Delhi Judicial Service Mains Examination (Written) 2023 is scheduled to take place on April 13-14.

A directive from a division bench, led by Justice Rajiv Shakdher and Justice Amit Bansal, instructed the Registrar General to reschedule the examination date by approximately 12 days. Initially slated for March 30-31, the examination has now been moved to April 13-14.

"As per the directive, the court has ordered accordingly. Considering the usual practice of holding examinations on the second Saturday and the following Sunday of the month, the aforementioned examination will now take place on April 13, 2024, and April 14, 2024," the court directed.

Senior Advocate Mohit Mathur, representing Sharma, argued that since her name was added to the list of successful candidates on March 21, the scheduled date for the examination should be postponed. This adjustment would allow her and other candidates in similar circumstances adequate time to prepare for the exam.

In contrast, Advocate Padam Priya, representing the Registrar General, contended that the examination must be completed by August 05, as per the directives of the Supreme Court in the case of Malik Mazhar Sultan & Anr v. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission and Others (2008) 17 SCC 703.

“Thus, having regard to the concerns expressed on behalf of the petitioner and the candidates similarly circumstanced, as also the urgency expressed by the respondent, we are inclined to direct the respondent to shift the date of examination by about 12 days.”

Representation for the petitioner includes Mr. Mohit Mathur, Senior Advocate, alongside Mr. Sanjay Dewan, Mr. Sushant Bali, Mr. Abhilash Mathur, Mr. Harsh Guatam, Mr. Aayush Dewar, Mr. Anish Dewan, and Mr. Mayank Sharma, Advocates.
