Delhi HC introduces mandatory gown requirement for advocates

In a recent development, the Delhi High Court has issued a significant notice, No. 2705/G-11/Genl./DHC, on Thursday 12.10.2023. This notice supersedes a previous notice No. 667/G-11/Genl./DHC, dated 06.03.2023.

The notice states that the advocates appearing before the court will now be required to wear gowns. This requirement will take effect from the 1st of November, 2023, (Wednesday). This change will be in effect until further notice from the Delhi High Court.

This development implies that advocates who regularly appear before the Delhi High Court will be mandated to wear gowns as part of their professional attire.  Advocates and legal professionals who frequently appear in the Delhi High Court should take note of this important development and ensure that they are prepared to comply with the gown requirement. Further updates and clarifications on this matter will be communicated by the court as necessary.
