Delhi HC HC Directs Govt. to Decide Representations On Fire Safety Rules

On Saturday, the Delhi High Court instructed the Delhi government to address two representations calling for regular fire safety audits and the establishment of fire safety standards for small hospitals and nursing homes.

This directive comes in response to a tragic fire at a private neonatal nursing home that resulted in the deaths of seven newborns.

A High Court Bench, consisting of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora, convened on a holiday to make up for the court hours lost on Friday due to the farewell ceremony for retiring and transferring Delhi High Court judges.

The Court stated that the two petitions concerning fire safety should be treated as representations by the government, which must issue detailed speaking orders within four weeks.

Additionally, the High Court directed the Delhi government and the Department of Delhi Fire Service to submit an action taken report within eight weeks and scheduled the matter for compliance reporting on August 9.
