The Delhi High Court, on Wednesday, rejected a petition demanding the creation of a Board for the Protection of Sanatana Dharma, similar to the Waqf Board that safeguards the interests of the Muslim community.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela stated that the issue pertains to policy matters, and as such, the court is unable to intervene.
"We cannot do anything in this," Chief Justice Manmohan said.
The Court disposed of the petition, granting the petitioner the freedom to approach the government for appropriate action.
The plea, filed by the Sanatan Hindu Sewa Sangh Trust, claimed that followers of Sanatana Dharma were facing attacks from adherents of other religions. The petitioner argued that there was no religious body dedicated to safeguarding the rights and customs of Sanatana Dharma and, therefore, requested the creation of such a body. It was also noted that the petitioner's earlier representation to the government had gone unanswered, leading to the filing of the plea in court.
