Delhi HC Denies Plea to Cancel PM Modi's Candidature from Varanasi

The plea to cancel Prime Minister Narendra Modi's candidature from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in the ongoing elections was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on Thursday.

The single headed bench of Justice Sachin Datta dismissed the petition, labeling it as 'mala fide'.

Captain Deepak Kumar, a pilot, filed the plea, alleging that Modi had submitted a false oath regarding his commitment to uphold the Constitution of India.

“The Candidate for Varanasi constituency for the 2024 general elections Narender Modi had submitted before the returning officer a false oath or affirmation to bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India," the petition said.

The plea alleged that Modi was involved in a conspiracy and accused him of engaging in an act of terrorism. It claimed that Modi attempted to assassinate the petitioner by orchestrating a plane crash while the petitioner was in command of the aircraft.

"Modi and his accomplices are accused of screening the criminal conspiracy where the accused accomplices Candidate Modi attempted to destabilize national security by planning a fatal crash of Flight AI 459 of 08.07.2018,” the plea said.

Kumar demanded that an effective and time-bound investigation be conducted into Modi's false oath. If the allegations were found to be true, he insisted that Modi should be barred from holding any public office.
