The Delhi High Court questioned the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday regarding its intention to arrest Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal again.
This query arose during a hearing on the ED's petition challenging a trial court order that granted bail to Kejriwal, who remains in jail after being arrested by the CBI in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.
Justice Neena Bansal expressed confusion, asking, "I am confused. What do you want to do? Are you going to arrest him again?" Despite Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court granting bail to Kejriwal on June 20 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the order was stayed by the high court. In July, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail in the ED case, but he remains in jail due to his concurrent arrest by the CBI.
During the hearing, Advocate Vivek Gurnani, representing the ED, requested Justice Bansal to reschedule the hearing as Additional Solicitor General SV Raju was occupied with another case. While noting that the Supreme Court had already granted bail, Kejriwal's lawyer, Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhari, argued that the case exemplified "sheer persecution."
The court decided to pass over the matter for later in the day
