A Delhi court on Friday remanded AAP's Uttam Nagar MLA Naresh Balyan to judicial custody in connection with a case involving alleged organized crimes, rejecting the police's request for an extension of his custody.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja issued the order after Naresh Balyan was presented before the court following the completion of his seven-day police custody in the case.
The court dismissed the Delhi Police's application seeking an additional 10 days of custody under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Special Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh, representing the Delhi Police, argued for extending Naresh Balyan's police custody, stating that further interrogation was necessary to uncover the larger conspiracy in the case.
Balyan was produced before the court upon the expiry of his seven-day police custody, which had been granted earlier.
The AAP legislator was arrested on December 4 in connection with the alleged organized crime case. Notably, he had previously been granted bail in a separate extortion case.
