A Delhi court has decided to extend the judicial custody of AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia until July 6.
This extension pertains to the investigation into the alleged excise policy scam, which is being conducted by the CBI.
In a recent development, the Delhi High Court refused to grant bail to him in the case.
A bench headed by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma stated that the applicant did not meet the criteria for bail, failing the triple test for bail in the corruption case. Additionally, the court noted that the twin conditions mandated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, were not fulfilled.
The high court, however, specified that Manish Sisodia could still visit his ailing wife every week under the same conditions previously established by the trial court. Earlier this year, in March, the Supreme Court rejected the senior AAP leader's curative petitions, which contested the dismissal of review pleas related to the 2023 verdict denying him bail in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam in the national capital.
In its ruling issued on October 30, 2023, the top court declined to grant bail to Manish Sisodia. However, it also mentioned that if the trial progresses slowly over the next three months, he could reapply for bail. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, presiding over the Rouse Avenue Court, had on April 30 rejected Manish Sisodia's request for regular bail for the second time.
During the trial court's decision to deny bail, it was noted that delays in the case proceedings were largely due to actions attributable to Manish Sisodia himself, dismissing his claims of undue delay.
