Today, the Delhi court denied bail to Parliament Security Breach case accused Neelam Azad. The bail plea was denied by Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Hardeep Kaur at Patiala House Courts.
The court observed that the ongoing investigation in the case is in its early stages. It emphasized the gravity of the allegations against Azad, stating that she is accused of engaging in activities that pose a serious threat to the sovereignty and integrity of India.
Based on the preceding discussions and taking into account the gravity and nature of the accusations against the applicant/accused, coupled with the early phase of the ongoing investigation, the Court determined that it is not appropriate to grant bail. Consequently, the court ordered the dismissal of the current bail application.
On December 13, 2023, Azad, along with three other individuals—Sagar Sharma, Manoranjan D, and Amol Shinde, was apprehended by the Delhi Police. Azad and Shinde were participating in a protest outside the parliament building, whereas Sharma and Manoranjan D had entered the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, carrying canisters emitting smoke.
Subsequently, the police arrested Lalit Jha, the mastermind behind the alleged 'conspiracy,' and another co-accused, Mahesh Kumawat. During the opposition to Azad's bail, the Delhi Police contended that there existed substantial evidence pointing towards her involvement in the offense and argued that her release could adversely impact the ongoing investigation.
It was asserted that the accused individuals, including Azad, hold significant influence, and the nature and severity of the offense disqualify her from seeking bail at this stage.
Advocate Suresh Chaudhary appeared for Neelam Azad.
Advocate Akhand Pratap Singh appeared for Delhi Police.
