Court permits maintenance of 55000 to be paid in 1 & 2 rupee coins

A Family Court in Jaipur Rajasthan in an odd case, allowed a husband to pay maintenance of Rs. 55,000 to his wife in the denomination of one and two rupee coins for 11 months after his family brought the money filled in seven sacks to the court following his arrest for non-payment.

The counsel for his wife objected to it, terming it “mental harassment”, the judge allowed the payment but asked the man to count the coins in court to make packets of 1000 each and hand them over to her at the next hearing on June 26, as per lawyers from both sides.

Divorce case of the couple is pending before the family court, Jaipur wherein the Family court had passed a direction to the husband, Dashrath, to give the maintenance @ Rs. 5000 per month but he was not paying which was followed by arrest.

The family members of Dashrath came to the court with coins worth 55,000 to give to his wife. Husband Dashrath is represented by advocate Raman Gupta.

In 2018 also a similar kind of incident took place in Chandigarh when the husband landed in the court with coins worth 24600 and the coins were counted by the court staff.
