During the sale of e-commerce company Flipkart, it became very expensive for a female consumer to sell shampoo at a price of Rs 96 more than the fixed price. Bengaluru-based Consumer Forum imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the company on the complaint of the woman. Not only this, the court ordered the company to pay Rs 96 which was overcharged.
A woman living in Bengaluru had bought a shampoo from Flipkart during Big Billion Days, when the shampoo was delivered, she found that it had been sold to her at Rs 96 more than the fixed price. In such a situation, she sued the company.
After filing the case, the Consumer Forum found the allegations to be true and imposed a fine on the company and ordered it to pay the money to the woman.
The court rejected Flipkart's arguments, calling its defense inadequate. Additionally, the court directed the company to pay Rs 10,000 for deficiency in service and Rs 5,000 for indulging in unfair trade practices. The court said, no company can sell any goods at a price higher than the maximum retail price given in it. It is wrong to do so.
Big Billion Days is Flipkart's annual sales event. During this time the company claims that it provides huge discounts on many products. Earlier this year, another customer complaint was filed with the Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. In this complaint, the customer had said that he had paid in advance but despite this the e-commerce website had not paid for his order.
