CM Manohar badly trapped by commenting on the judge, case reached High Court and Supreme Court

The controversial remarks made by Chief Minister Manohar Lal against a High Court judge two days back in Bhiwani's Kharak Kalan village can now prove to be a sore throat for him. Former Minister Atar Singh Saini and State Chairman of Haryana Congress Legal Department, Advocate Lal Bahadur Khowal have sent a complaint to the High Court and the Supreme Court demanding criminal contempt proceedings against the Chief Minister.

In the complaint sent to the Hon'ble High Court and the Supreme Court, he said that he is also a lawyer who is an officer of the court, because of this he is also pained, who addressed a public meeting in Kharak Kalan village of Bhiwani district on April 2. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had committed criminal contempt of court by saying that there is a judge, there is something wrong with his forehead.

"ठीक करेंगे उसको। यानी एक न्यायाधीश हैं जिन्हें समस्या है, हम उन्हें ठीक कर देंगे।" (Will fix it That is, there is a judge who has problems, we will fix them". This statement of the Chief Minister has also been published through various newspapers and media and this news is continuously going viral on social media. The said statement was given in the context of banning the selection and appointment of constables in the state police.

He has said in the complaint that such a statement is a direct threat to a judicial officer, that too a Hon'ble Judge of the Hon'ble High Court and directly amounts to criminal contempt of court. He said that in order to save the honor and dignity of the judiciary, it was necessary that criminal contempt proceedings be initiated against Chief Minister Manohar Lal for making such statements in a public forum.

In his complaint, he alleged that the Chief Minister was directly interfering in the functioning of the Judiciary and should be given deterrent punishment which would set an example for the dignity of the Hon'ble High Court Judge. He has referred in this regard to a judgment delivered in a similar case, Babul Supriyo v. State of West Bengal & Ors.

In this case on 14 October 2020 it has been held that the representatives of the people are expected to be courteous in their behaviour, dignified in their manners and careful in the words they speak. He demanded that in this case also necessary action be initiated against the contemnors and severe punishment be awarded in the interest of justice and a lesson be given to the contemnor who should set an example for others not to utter such contemptuous words.
